Start out by simply browsing through the listings to familiarize yourself with how the directory works. The companies are listed in alphebetical order and each listing includes a line that tells you the type of compensation they offer. That way if you only want to concentrate on companies that pay cash you can easily find these companies.

Be sure to review the sections titled "Application Instructions" and "Frequently Asked Questions" before you start filling out the applications. This will save you a lot of time and you will get a better understanding for what you need to do.

After you have reviewed all the information follow these steps:

1. Choose a User ID that you will use with all the companies.
   
   Most companies allow you to create your own User ID although a few assign their own. (Some require you to use use your email address as your User ID.) You will want to use the same User ID with every company if possible. That way you won't have to remember or keep track of a different User ID for every company.
   
   For your user id use something that is unique like your first name and a random 5 digit number followed by a random character. This will (almost) guarantee that no one else has chosen this particular User ID for any company. For example, if your name is Lisa your User ID could be lisa54285z. This will be your "Default User ID."

2. Choose a Password that you will use with all the companies. You can use something like your birthday with some random characters mixed in. For example, if your birthday is March 22, 1972 your Password could be 03%22!72. This will be your "Default Password."

3. Save your default User ID and default Password in a safe place.

4. Look through the company directory and find the companies that you want to work with. Click the Join Link for each and follow the instructions to fill out the applications. The more applications you fill out the more often you will be asked to participate.

5. If your User ID and/or Password is different than your default User ID/Password for a particular company be sure to record these along with the company name and link. You will need this information to sign in later and it is a good idea to keep it all in one location. Here is how I do it:

6. After about a week to 10 days you should start receiving email invitations to participate in online research. The invitation will contain information on what the survey is about, the compensation and instructions on how to participate.
   
   
7. Follow the instructions in the e-mail you receive. Sometimes you will be asked to fill out a short "screener" questionaire before you are invited to participate. This is because they are looking for a certain demographic group of people. You are not paid for screeners although you will sometimes be entered into a sweepstakes or drawing.

8. After you complete the project you should be paid according to the policies of the company. Most will mail you a check within a few weeks.
