"Here's the Truth About Getting Paid to
Fill Out Surveys Online"

Can you really get paid for your opinions?

That was the question I set out to answer when I started researching online market research companies that claim to pay for your opinions.

Online Market Research is an industry that is still in it's infancy but already there are hundreds of companies that claim to pay people for their opinions. In actuality, a lot of these companies are either trying to sell you something or simply using the pretense of paying for filling out a survey to collect your email address for future spamming activities.

So, here is what I did to find the truth...

First off, I searched all the major search engines for Online Market Research Companies. I purchased lists that other companies had compiled. And, I talked to people who claimed to be making money filling out surveys. When I was finished I had compiled a list of 973 prospective companies.

But, I was just getting started.

Next, I visited each company's website and eliminated all the dead links.

Then, I signed up for each remaining company and monitored their activity. Doing this I was able to eliminate all the inactive companies, the companies that were spamming operations and the companies that were merely selling some product or service.

Finally, I participated in survey opportunities as they presented themselves just to be sure the companies were on the up and up.

My findings? Yes, you really can get paid for filling out surveys!

Here are a few of the surveys I have been paid
to fill out over the past couple of weeks...

Survey Type Time Taken Amount Paid Comments
Printer Usage 20 Minutes $25.00 Quick, easy survey that asked questions concerning my home printer usage.
Movie Trailer 15 Minutes $4.00 This was a lot of fun. I watched a movie trailer and filled out a brief survey.
Beverage Consumption 1 Hour $30.00 This was boring and not much fun but it paid very well.
Alcohol Consumption 20 Minutes $10.00 This was really interesting. They emailed me an invitation with a url. When I clicked the link I was taken to a web page that had a toll free phone number. I called the number and took part in a survey where I had to listen to radio commercials for Johnny Walker Whiskey.
Tires 5 Minutes $5.00 Very quick survey about tires.
Beer, Wine, and Spirits 45 Minutes $25.00 I think I am starting to see a pattern here!
Online Usage 5 Minutes $5.00 Quick survey about my online usage.
Total 2 Hr
50 Min.
$104.00 Two Week Results

Now, obviously you are not going to get rich filling out surveys.

But, $104.00 for less than 3 hours work is nothing to sneeze at either!

And that's not all -- I also participated in opinion polls. These opinion polls don't pay out right but they do quailify you for drawings of cash and prizes. These polls are very short -- 1 or 2 minutes each. And everytime you participate you get another chance to win.

Plus, I received a $10.00 phone card from another company for my opinion.

In addition, many companies have monthly sweepstakes for big cash prizes which you are automatically entered into.

But, getting paid for filling out surveys is just one of the benefits of participation. Imagine getting a sneak peak at cutting edge technology that no one else has seen. Or, you may find yourself watching a trailer for a movie that has not even been announced yet. (Imagine telling your friends about an upcoming movie that you helped to name!) Or, comparing two radio ads and picking the one you like best. It's really fun!

The contents of my Members Only Website is now free... But be warned...

All my research into survey companies was done 5 years ago (that's about a million years in Internet Time.) I did find a few companies that would pay you. In fact, as part of my research in finding these companies I signed up for probably a hundred (using a yahoo email account) and I did a few decent surveys that paid some pretty good money.

My best month I really did make $400.00 BUT I really doubt you could make anywhere near that today because so many people have signed up for these programs.

Here are a couple that I had success with that still send me surveys (but I rarely do them anymore so I have no idea what they pay)

One of the biggest things I found was you need to complete the profile or lifestyle surveys if they offer them. These are generally not paid but by filling them out you give them more info about yourself and they have a better chance to match you with surveys.

Also, check your yellow pages for offline research companies in your area. You can sometimes sign up for research and focus groups in your area that generally pay much better then online surveys. I did a few of these several years ago and they were actually quite fun. One was a radio station and another was a pizza taste testing.
